Montagne 1848a, 1848b both as Lejeunea elliptica, Schiffner 1898 , Frye & Clark 1947, Schuster 1967, Mizutani 1975, Miller et al. 1983 also as Lejeunea elliptica var. γ maior, Schuster 1983, Bapna & Kachroo 2000b.
