Species examined: female holotype (NHMUK 13454796); male (NHMUK 13454780).
Description (Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1888; Karny, 1937). Size small, wingless ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ). With striking, dark brown to black colour patterns ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ). Head noticeably powerfully built ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 ). Frons rough ( Fig. 1C View FIGURE 1 ). Fastigium of vertex wider than the first antennal segments. Tegmen and wing completely absent. Legs not overly long, always under 30 mm. Posterior femur with 5–6 internal and 3–4 outer ventral spines. Anterior and middle tibiae posteriorly more or less flattened dorsally, with four to six ventral movable spurs on each side. Abdomen of male with ninth tergite produced or hood-like ( Fig. 1D View FIGURE 1 ), with shallow median depression near posterior margin ( Fig. 1E View FIGURE 1 ). Male subgenital plate with clearly developed styli ( Fig. 1E View FIGURE 1 ). Female ovipositor not excessively long, under 30 mm; at the upper edge not serrated, apex acuminate or obtuse ( Fig. 1F View FIGURE 1 ).
