Differential Diagnosis. Recognized by the combination of the large body size (ca. 2.00 mm), the very coarsely and densely punctate pronotum, the coarsely punctate elytra, and, in males, the very large metatibial brush, with undulating tips. H. queenslandica is differentiated from H. pilipes , the males of which also have large metatibial brushes, by the differently shaped and less densely punctate pronotum, and the more regular elytral series near the scutellum (Figs. 177–179). The male genitalia of the two species differ markedly (Figs. 181–184).

Description. Size (length/width, mm) holotype: body (length to elytral apices) 2.02/0.81; head 0.32/ 0.42; pronotum 0.48/0.61, PA 0.50, PB 0.57; elytra 1.25/0.81. Dorsum brown to dark brown, head and pronotal disc darker, palpi light brown, not darkened apically.

Frons punctures ca. 1.5xef, each with short seta; interstices 0.5–1xpd. Clypeus microreticulate laterally, finely sparsely punctate medially. Mentum microreticulate, dull; postmentum microreticulate. Genae raised, lacking posterior ridge. Pronotum densely coarsely punctate, punctures on disc deep, slightly elongate, ca. 3xpd those of frons, interstices usually less than 1xpd, often narrow walls forming reticulate pattern; PF1, PF2 and PF4 absent; PF3 moderately deep, broad.

Elytral punctures slightly larger than largest pronotal punctures. Intervals not raised, shining, width ca. 1xpd or less, as are interstices between punctures of a row. Apices in dorsal aspect conjointly rounded, in posterior aspect margins forming marked angle with one another.

Ratios of P2 width and plaque shape (P2/w/l/s) ca. 2/1/1/3. P1 laminate; median carina angulate in profile. P2 moderately narrow, l/w ca. 2/1, sides slightly diverging toward blunt apex. Plaques small ovals located at posterior margins of deep, median depression. No midlongitudinal carina between mesoventral intercoxal process and plaques. Cuticle asperite under hydrofuge pubescence. AIS flat, width at straight posterior margin 2x P2. Profemur (male) with small tubercle on median surface near basal 1/3; protibia straight, not widened subapically; mesotibia simple; metatibia slender, medial surface very weakly sinuate and with large brush of dense and strong setae over distal 3/4. Abdominal apex asymmetrical.

Aedeagus (Fig. 184) main-piece with large, finger-shaped lobe on ventral surface, near base; left paramere very large, with three groups of setae, medioventral part flexible and with minute processes along margin; right paramere lobe-shaped apically, with setae in two groups; distal piece with large, somewhat human headshaped process. Female last tergite with three incisions, delimiting four lobes, setae slender, tapering; gonocoxite as illustrated (Fig. 223).

Etymology. Named in reference to the geographical distribution.

Distribution. Currently known from many localities in and around the Atherton Tablelands, and two disjunct localities, one each in far northern and far southern Queensland (Fig. 259).

Remarks. Females have simple legs; the metaventral depression and small plaques do not differ notably from those of males.
