Ectinosoma melaniceps Boeck, 1865 from Helgoland

Material. 66 females. Locality: Helgoland, German Bight, 1993; 54 ss 12 ¾ N, 7 ss 53 ¾ E. Two females are dissected. Female 1 mounted on four slides [Coll. No. 1998.041/1±1998.041 /4]. Female 2 mounted on six slides [Coll. No. 1998.042/1±1998.042 /6]. They are stored in the Copepod Collection of the AG Zoomorphologie, UniversitaÈt Oldenburg .

Description of the female

Body length (incl. C. R.) of the females varies between 450 and 580 m m (mean 5 515 m m; n 5 66).

Rostrum, antennule, labrum, mandible, maxillule, maxilliped, P1±P4 and caudal rami exactly as in E. carnivora sp. n.

The following diOEerences are found (®gures 10E, 11A±F):

Ornamentation of the body (®gures 10E, 11E±F). One black area on cephalothorax. The black colour sometimes very pale. The row of long irregular palisades ventrally on the genital double somite is uninterrupted. Row of spinules laterally and dorsally on the hyaline frill of genital double and following somite (®gure 11E). Minute ripples on surface of cuticle are deeper. Antenna (®gure 11A). Exopod as long as endopod; setal formula of exopod: 1, 1, 2. Maxilla (®gure 11C). Syncoxa with three endites; middle endite with one bare seta. P5 (®gure 11D). Row of spinules on inner and innermost but one lobe of exopod, respectively, and two rows of spinules on inner edge of baseoendopod.
