Diagnosis. Stenolemus fraterculus is most easily distinguished from other species in the genus by the following characters: distinctive wing patterning, with characteristic triangular dark maculation within apical discal cell divided medially by a faint clear line, and the mostly clear basal discal cell; petiolate pronotum with narrow constriction less than twice as long as the anterior lobe; and dark annuli on the mid and hind femora lacking short, dense pile (see Wygodzinsky 1966: Figs. 98E, I–J).

Hill, 13 (ANIC); Nobbs Apartments, Burnt Pine, 26–30 November 1979, G. B. Monteith, rainforest, 33, 4Ƥ (QM).

Remarks. Five species of Stenolemus are known to occur in Australia. S. fraterculus is known from mainland New South Wales, Norfolk Island and New Zealand.
