Type species. Ophiothrix pentaphylla ( Pennant, 1777) = O. fragilis (Abildgaard in Müller, 1789) .

Diagnosis (mOdified frOm Clark 1966). Disc (interradial regiOns) cOvered by spines Or granules with small thOrns at their tips and/Or alOng their length; radial shields naked Or with similar cOverage Of disc; arm spines translucent and denticulate; nO Oral papillae.
