Both sexes: mesoscutum, mesopleuron and posterior vertical surface of propodeum shiny, sparsely and finely punctate with polished interspaces (except in E. sphecodimorphus , the mesoscutum of which is finely shagreened on interspaces, and also E. laevidorsum and E. popovi which have the mesopleuron densely punctate and the posterior vertical surface of the propodeum is dull or slightly shiny); T2–T4 with well developed anterior hair bands; posterior areas of metasomal terga widely hyaline or yellowish translucent (except for E. brevicornis , the posterior areas of the terga of which are narrowly translucent). Female: inner metatibial spur long, reaching middle of metabasitarsus .... ................................................................................................................... 14. – Both sexes: mesoscutum usually more coarsely punctate, mesopleuron and posterior vertical surface of propodeum matt, granulate, rugulose or shagreened on interspaces, if mesopleuron very coarsely and usually densely punctate, polished on interspaces (subgenus Marghalictus ) and/or head very narrow and female clypeus with longitudinal furrows (subgenera Puncthalictus and Rostrohalictus ); posterior areas of metasomal terga dark or narrowly testaceous translucent or metasoma largely red (femalesin some species of subgenus Marghalictus , and some other species). Female: inner metatibial spur of normal length, 1/3–1/4 as long as metabasitarsus .......................................................... 16
