The two species of Potamocarcinus clearly segregate into a different clade (node 3). One of the most important differences between the Potamocarcinini and the Pseudothelphusini is represented by the absence in the former of a caudo-marginal projection (character 48). The branch to which the two species of Potamocarcinus are connected (node 4) is supported by four synapomorphies that complement the separation between Potamocarcinini and Pseudothelphusini : the lateral suture of the gonopod free along all its length (character 42); the marginal plate independent from caudal surface (character 45); the distal end of the marginal plate overreaching the tip of the gonopod (character 46); and the absence of a caudo-marginal distal margin (character 47).
