Apsilocera longicornis Mitroiu & van Achterberg, sp. n.

( Figs 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 , 26 View FIGURES 25 – 30 )

Type material. Holotype, ♀ (RMNH), “ INDONESIA: LOMBOK, Suranadi N.R., c 185 m, nr Mataram, Mal. trap 2, 19–29.iii.1991, C. v. Achterberg, RMNH’91”.

Diagnosis. Head slightly transverse in anterior view, with one discontinuous crest composed of blunt teeth running between the posterior ocelli and the anterior one; clypeal margin straight and narrow ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 25 – 30 ); each funicular segment with two rows of sensilla; clava brown ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ); distal tooth of mandible blunt ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 25 – 30 ). Mesosoma arched; fore coxa mainly dark, mid and hind coxae pale yellow, the latter with a medium dark spot basally; fore wing hyaline ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Metasoma dorsally brown except small pale basal depression.

Description. Holotype female, body length: 2.5 mm. Colour ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ): head black, with very slight bluish metallic reflections; eyes reddish, ocelli whitish; scape light yellow, slightly darker in distal third; pedicel and flagellum uniformly brown; mandible reddish-brown, teeth darker. Mesosoma black; wings hyaline; tegula and venation brown; fore coxa mainly dark, mid and hind coxae pale yellow, the latter with a moderately dark spot basally; trochanters, proximal part of femora, and tibiae pale yellow; distal part of femora brown; tarsi yellowish, tips darker. Metasoma dorsally brown, hind margins of tergites darker; first tergite with a small yellowish depression at base; lateral and ventral sides of metasoma extensively pale at base; ovipositor sheaths brown.

Head slightly transverse in anterior view, with one discontinuous crest composed of blunt teeth running between the posterior ocelli and the anterior one; clypeal margin straight and narrow; gena moderately receding towards mouth, not hollowed at mouth corner, although slightly depressed ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 25 – 30 ); temple short; occiput slightly emarginate; each funicular segment with two rows of sensilla ( Figs 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 , 26 View FIGURES 25 – 30 ); mandible formula 4:4, distal tooth blunt ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 25 – 30 ). Relative measurements—length: 27; width: 51; height: 46; POL: 10.5; OOL: 9.5; eye height: 27; eye length: 20; malar space: 8; mouth width: 25; distance between clypeal margin and toruli: 28; scape length: 23; pedicel length: 5.5; pedicel width: 3.5; pedicel plus flagellum: 75; F1 length: 9; F1 width: 4; F6 length: 7; F6 width: 4; clava length: 16; clava width: 4.5.

Mesosoma arched ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ); propodeum finely reticulate, alveoli very small; fore wing with basal cell bare, open below; basal vein with 2 or 3 irregular rows of hairs; ventral side of costal cell with one row of hairs and a few additional hairs in distal part; speculum barely reaching proximal end of M; stigma elongated ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Relative measurements—length: 56; width: 40; height: 35; mesoscutum length: 21; scutellum length: 20; scutellum width: 20; fore wing length: 118; fore wing width: 53; M: 30; S: 15; P: 33.

Metasoma ovate ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ); basal tergite with small depression at base; ovipositor sheaths hardly visible in dorsal view. Relative measurements—length: 80; width: 50; length of first tergite: 15; distance from base of metasoma to tip of hypopygium: 50.

Distribution. Indonesia.

Hosts. Unknown.

Etymology. The name is derived from the Latin words “ longus ” (long) and “ cornu ” (horn), and refers to the long antennae, having all funicular segments with two rows of sensilla.

Comments. Apsilocera longicornis belongs to a group of species having conspicuous crests on the vertex. It most closely resembles A. obtusicristata , but differs mainly in having the funicular segments more elongated, with two rows of sensilla each ( Figs 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 , 26 View FIGURES 25 – 30 ).
