Names.

Myanmar: mak-hpung, zaung-ya. English: blimbing, caramba, carambola, country gooseberry.

Range.

Malay region; cultivated and often naturalized in the tropics. Cultivated in Myanmar.

Uses.

Fruit: Used for bleeding piles and fever.

Note.

In India the fruit is an antiscorbutic, and cooling; dried fruit is used for fever; ripe fruit is used for bleeding piles, to relieve thirst, and to calm febrile excitation ( Jain and DeFilipps 1991).
