Tenthredo chyzeri Mocsáry, 1891

A junior subjective synonym of Tenthredo (Tenthredella) cunyi Konow, 1886 . Synonymy by Enslin (1912a).

TYPES. Tenthredo Chyzeri [sic!] Mocsáry, 1891: 156–157. Syntypes 2 Ƥ, “in montibus Beszkid, iam ad limites Galiciae” and “in Comitatu Trencsin”. Lectotype Ƥ, hereby designated ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ). Type locality: “Beszkidh” [the locality may concern the Tatra mountains in Slovakia / Poland].

DISCUSSION. Only one syntype could be located at the HNHM. This specimen ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ) is hereby designated as lectotype. Pesarini (1999) described the very similar Tenthredella nympha from the Italian Alps. He wrote: “I had the opportunity of examining the type of Tenthredo chyzeri Mocsary , a female specimen housed in the Termszetuddomanyi Muzeum of Budapest, which resulted identical to Tenthredella cunyi (Konow) ...”. It’s clear from Mocsárys description that he had two specimens from different localities: “Patria: Hungariae septentrionalis montes.—Specimen primum a Doctore Cornelio Chyzer, amico de fauna Hungariae optime merito, in montibus Beszkid nominatis, iam ad limites Galiciae; exemplar secundum a Doctore Domino Brancsik in Comitatu Trencsin inventa sunt.”. The designation of the lectotype of chyzeri fixes the current status of the taxon.

Tenthredo concinna Mocsáry, 1883

A valid species, Tenthredo (Dorhettenyx) concinna Mocsáry, 1883 .

TYPES. Tenthredo concinna Mocsáry, 1883: 7 –8. Syntype (s) Ƥ, “ India orientalis”. Lectotype Ƥ, hereby designated ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 9 – 10. 9 ). Type locality: “ India or.”.

= Tenthredo clepsydra Malaise, 1934: 456 –457. Holotype Ƥ, “from round Pashok, Darjiling District; alt. 5,000 ft ”. In the National Zoological Collection, Zoological Survey of India, Calcutta. Not examined. Synonymy by Malaise (1945).

= Tenthredo concinnoides Malaise, 1945: 208 , syn. nov. Syntypes 8 Ƥ, “ Burma ( Chin Hills). Mt. Victoria at 2400–2800 m ”. Lectotype Ƥ, hereby designated, deposited in the NHRS ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 9 – 10. 9 ). Type locality: “ Burma Mt. Victoria, Chinhills 2800 m ”. Paralectotypes: same data as the lectotype (2Ƥ NHRS), same data as the lectotype but collected in April (2Ƥ NHRS, 1 Ƥ SDEI), and 1Ƥ same data, but 2200 m and collected in June (NHRS).

DISCUSSION. Malaise (1945) distinguished T. concinna and T. concinnoides mainly based on differences in the sculpture of the mesonotum and rather weak differences in colouration of the antennae and the abdomen. In 17 specimens of the group from Yunnan the sculptural characters are not as stable as supposed by Malaise, as several specimens have an intermediate sculpture ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 11 – 12 ). On the other hand, the lectotype of concinna ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 9 – 10. 9 ) has completely yellow hind tibiae, whereas all examined specimens from China and Burma have yellow hind tibiae with black apex, a character not noted by Malaise. One more specimen from India (Kalatop, Himachal Pradesh) and two females from Nepal were examined. All agree well with the lectotype of concinna . According to Saini (in litt., 2012) this colouration is the usual one in NW India, whereas in NE India the colouration of the tibiae is not stable. Tenthredo clepsydra was synonymized with concinna by Malaise (1945). The paratype of clepsydra in the NHRS shows an intermediate colouration of the hind tibiae (Vårdal, in litt. 2012). There seems to be no character that makes it reasonable to separate two different species, and T. concinnoides is therefore considered to be a junior synonym of T. concinna .

The species is widely distributed in eastern Asia: Bhutan (Muche 1983), China (Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan; Xiao 2006), India, Nepal (2 Ƥ, Karnali: Tamti 2500–4000 m, 9.– 12.06.2007, leg. Creutzburg, first record for Nepal, SDEI), Myanmar, Vietnam (1 Ƥ, Mt. Phan Si Pang, N rdg., 1950 m, 13.05.1995, leg. Shinohara; 1 Ƥ, Sa Pa, 1800 m, 18.05.2003, leg. H. Ono, first records for Vietnam, NSMT). Records of concinna from Taiwan refer to a hitherto undescribed species (see below under Tenthredo chanae sp. n.).
