Stridulivelia tersa (Drake and Harris, 1941)

This species was previously known from the Antilles, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Brazil (AM, MT, MG), Peru and Bolivia ( Polhemus and Spangler 1995; Nieser and Melo 1997; Melo and Nieser 2004). It is now recorded for the first time from Espírito Santo State.

Nomenclatural note

Rhagovelia ochroischion Nieser and Polhemus, 1997 (nec Nieser and Polhemus, 1999) Rhagovelia sbolos Nieser and Polhemus, 1997 (nec Nieser and Polhemus, 1999) Rhagovelia trianguloides Nieser and Polhemus, 1997 (nec Nieser and Polhemus, 1999) Rhagovelia turmalis Nieser and Polhemus, 1997 (nec Nieser and Polhemus, 1999)

These species were described as new by Nieser and Polhemus (1999), based on specimens from Minas Gerais. However, all four names already appear on the identification key to the Rhagovelia from Minas Gerais presented in Nieser and Melo (1997); type localities and drawings are also presented on the same paper. Types are not mentioned, but according to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature , the designation of types and the indication of repository institutions are only necessary to validate species descriptions made after 1999.

Despite of the dating problem, Nieser and Polhemus should still be considered the authors of the species, as the authorship was credited to them on pp. 10–11 of Nieser and Melo (1997). Therefore, it is the attribution of publication and year that needs to be changed, not the taxon authorship. Hence, to avoid taxonomic confusion, names of Nieser and Polhemus should be considered validated in Nieser and Melo (1997). Resuming:
