Holotype. Male, WA, Reabold Hill, Perth, 1976–77, - 31.9405°S, 115.7760°E, 93m asl, pitfalls, J. Major leg. [ SAMA 22657-01 View Materials ]. GoogleMaps

Paratypes. On same slide as holotype, male and two females, [ SAMA 22657-02 View Materials ]; male, three females and juvenile, [ SAMA 22657-03 View Materials ]; 3 females and juvenile, [ SAMA 22657-04 View Materials ]; 2 females and juvenile, [ SAMA 22657- 04 View Materials ]; numerous specimens in alcohol; all paratypes from same locality and date as holotype. Originally labelled as E. marginata .

Other material examined. Male, SA, Fairview Conservation Park, - 36.8277°S, 140.4153°E 35m asl, under stones in lake bed, 9.x.1982, PG leg GoogleMaps .

Description. Size. Length up to 1.28 mm excluding antennae, (n= 8), males smaller than females (1.067 vs 1.414).

Colour. Purple appearing granulated with dark antennae, anterior part of the head, legs and a transverse stripe posteriorly on each tergite ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 and 5I View FIGURE 5 ).

Head. Eight eyes, G and H 2/3 of E and F in size ( Fig. 33D View FIGURE 33 ). Antennal length 542 μm (n=5), 1.88 times the length of the head (n= 5). Ant IV with bilobed apical vesicle with adjacent pin chaeta; relative length of Ant I/II/III/ IV=1/1.8/1.9/2.8 (n=5). Sensory organ of Ant III with straight rod-like sensilla in addition to the normal guard sensilla); four labral smooth papillae ( Fig. 33A View FIGURE 33 ). Labral Mc formula 4/554; 4 prelabral ciliated chaetae; labral chaetae smooth. Labial chaetae MREL 1 L 2 all ciliated, with only one Mc M, and R smaller than M. Labial papilla E with external process reaching the papilla tip. Maxillary palp bifurcate with three sublobal chaetae.

Thorax and abdomen. Ratio of lengths Abd IV/III=4 (n=8). Tibiotarsus without differentiated chaetae, with exception of the smooth terminal chaetae on legs 3, characteristic for the genus. Trochanteral organ with 6 spiny chaetae. Unguis length of internal edge 30 μm and 40 μm at external one. Unguis ( Fig. 33B View FIGURE 33 ) with 4 teeth, paired two at 33% from base and first unpaired tooth at 66% from the base, the terminal one minute, difficult to see; lateral teeth below the level of paired ones Unguiculus lanceolate, with external serrated lamella. Tenent hair clavate, same size as internal unguis edge. Length of manubrium and dens 255 + 290=545 μm (n= 8), dens a little longer than the manubrium, with small differences in length between them for Entomobrya . Manubrial plate with 4 chaetae and 2 pseudopores. Mucro bidentate with apical tooth longer than subapical one, with mucronal basal spine reaching the tip of the subapical tooth ( Fig. 33C View FIGURE 33 ). Mucro 15 μm, (n=6). The length of smooth apical part of dens 36.5 μm.

Macrochaetotaxy. Simplified Mc formula: 3,1,0,3,2/3,3/1,2/0,0,1/0,0,2,2,2. Head chaetotaxy ( Fig. 33D View FIGURE 33 ) Mc An 1, An 2, An 3a1 and An 3 present and with A 5 mac on A2 area. M 1 to M 4 present as Mc. In sutural row S 0, S 1, S 3, S 4i, S 4, S 5i and S 5, Ps 2 and Ps 5 present. Thoracic chaetotaxy on Th II ( Fig. 33E View FIGURE 33 ) with Mc m 1, m 2 and m 2i present on T1 area. On T2 area with Mc a 5, m 4 and m 4i present. Abdominal chaetotaxy ( Fig. 33F View FIGURE 33 ), a 2 and a 3 absent on A1 area at Abd II, only m 3 and m 3e Mc present on A2 area of Abd II, on Abd III only m 3 Mc present on A5 area, Abd IV ( Fig.33G View FIGURE 33 ) with Mc A 4 –A 6, B 5 –B 6 and C 2a. Sensillary formula not seen because of dark colour.

Remarks. Several Australian Entomobrya have 0,2/0,0,1 Mc on Abd II and III as does Entomobrya pseudomarginata sp. nov. They are E. assuta , E. additae sp. nov., E. boreensis sp. nov., E. clarki , E. niger comb. nov. and E. stirlingensis sp. nov. but E. pseudomarginata sp. nov. differs in the presence of smooth labral papillae, and 3, 3 Mc on T1 and T2 areas of Th II as well as having a different colour.

Etymology. Named for its similarity superficially to E. marginata .
