Solothrips brevisetis sp. nov.</p><p>Diagnosis. Small macroptera. Head wider than long, mouth-cone short and pointed with 3-segmented maxillary palpi. Compound eyes with 4 pigmented facets ventrally. Ocellar setae I and II absent, setae III short; 5 pairs of postocular setae present. Antennae 8-segmented, segment I without dorso-apical setae, III and IV with forked sense cone. Pronotum wider than long without long posteromarginal or posteroangular setae. Prosternal ferna undivided, probasisternum without setae. Meso- and metanota sculptured with reticles, campaniform sensillum (CPS) present. Mesosternal furca with spinula, metasternal furca absent. Fore wing first vein setae discontinuous, second vein setae scattered, apex with 1 terminal seta; posteromarginal cilia wavy; clavus with 5 veinal setae and 1 discal seta. Tarsi 2-segmented. Abdominal tergites median pair of setae (S1) small, arising in anterior part of tergites; paired campaniform sensilla situated behind setae S1 and S2, close to posterior margin; tergites without ctenidia; tergite VIII with a patch of microtrichia anterior to the spiracle, complete posteromarginal comb present; tergite IX with two pairs of CPS. Body bicolored (Fig. 1), head and thorax brown, abdominal tergite I brown, II–VIII pale with median brown patch, IX pale brown, X brown.Antennal segment I pale with base brown, II–III pale, IV–V pale with apex brown, VI–VIII brown (Fig. 3); fore wing brown with one pale area near base, clavus brown (Fig. 4).</p><p>Head sculptured with reticles dorsally, posterior fourth with transverse reticles; ocellar setae III situated near the outside of anterior margins of ocellar triangle; 5 pairs of postocular setae arranged close to compound eyes (Fig. 2). Antennae 8-segmented, segments III–IV with short forked sense cone; segment III longest and asymmetrical, dorsal side with 8–9 microtrichial rows, ventral with 6–8 rows; segment IV with 6–8 microtrichial rows; segment V as long as or longer than VI, with 6–7 microtrichial rows; segment VI with one long inner sense cone and two short outer sense cones, 4–6 microtrichial rows. (Fig. 3).</p><p>Pronotum surface with sculptured reticulations and about 30 discal setae, all setae short and flattened, no long setae (Fig. 2). Mesonotum with regular reticles, medial and submedial setae short and flattened, situated on posterior part, CPS present anteromedially. Metanotum reticulate, median pair of setae flattened and behind anterior margin, submedian setae near anterior margin, CPS present. Mesosternum and metasternum setae fine (Fig. 5). Tarsi 2- segmented. Fore wing vein setae short and flattened, costal vein setae clearly shorter than costal cilia, apex with 1 terminal seta; first vein with 6–7 basal setae and 3 distal setae, second vein with 7 setae scattered (Fig. 4).</p><p>Abdominal tergite I sculptured with transverse reticles, tergites II–VIII smooth medially, laterally with transverse reticulations. Tergites discal setae S1 and S2 small, setae S1 arising from anterior half, setae S3 on tergites II–IV stout but small on tergites V–VIII, posteroangular setae arising mesad of posterior angle. Tergites I–VII medially with short posteromarginal craspeda. Tergite VIII with complete posteromarginal comb, CPS very close to posterior margin (Fig. 6). A patch of microtrichia present on the anterior angle of tergite VII–VIII. Tergite IX MD setae longest; tergite X with median split complete. Pleurites without discal setae. Sternites with weak transverse reticles, no discal setae; sternite VII with 3 pairs of posteromarginal setae in front of posterior margin (Fig. 7).</p><p>Male unknown.</p><p>Measurements (holotype female in microns). Total distended body length 960. Head length (width) 100 (130); eye length (width) 55 (40). Pronotum length (width) 110 (180). Length of antenna 190; length (width) of antennal segments I 22 (24), II 32 (21), III 34 (18), IV 32 (20), V 30 (16), VI 28 (15), VII 6 (6) and VIII 8 (5). Fore wing length 550. Ovipositor length 220.</p><p>Material examined.   Holotype female: CHINA, Guangdong province, Guangzhou, <a href="https://tb.plazi.org/GgServer/search?materialsCitation.longitude=110.29222&amp;materialsCitation.latitude=21.025833" title="Search Plazi for locations around (long 110.29222/lat 21.025833)">Mt baiyun National Forest Park</a> (21°01'33"N, 110°17'32"E, alt. 630m), collected by malaise trap under tree, 17.viii.2021, Fei Ye. (in GIZGAS).</p><p>Paratypes: 5 females with same data as holotype.(in GIZGAS) .</p><p>Molecular characterization.
