The peritrich was often attached to the stalks of Rhabdostyla inclinans (= Opercularia inclinans), Epistylis tubificis, and E. tschorici, which were in turn attached to oligochaetes (Boshko 2009).

Remarks: This species was reported on the mollusc Unio pictorum (Stiller 1931; Kahl 1935; Schödel 2018; Porto et al. 2024), the amphipod Gammarus pulex (Schödel 2018; Porto et al. 2024), and caddisfly larvae (Nenninger 1948; Schödel 2018). This species was also reported on leeches Glossiphonia complanata and Helobdella stagnalis from Ukraine (Boshko 2009). Mayén-Estrada et al. (2024) kept the ciliates under Epistylis chrysemidis Bishop & Jahn, 1941, which was reported as Epistylis balatonica on bivalve Unio pictorum from Hungary.

Epistylis balatonica was sometimes observed attaching to the stalks of E. borysthenicus, which were present on soft parts of the bodies of mollusks from the genera Unio and Anodonta found in Ukraine (Boshko 2009).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03ED87D69C57EB6199D8FE73FAA806DC	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Schödel (2018, p. 80) mentions the synonym for this species as ‘ Ampullaster matthesi: Jankowski 1985’. The name combination Ampullaster matthesi does not exist. The genus Ampullaster Jankowski, 1976, was proposed for the single species Pyxidium stammeri Lust, 1950, but also in abstracts (Jankowski 1976) and full text is unavailable (personal communication from Dr. Igor Dovgal). In addition, this is a homonym, because the generic name Ampullaster Fell, 1963 is present in Echinodermata.

Orbopercularia matthesi Lust, 1950 belongs to other genus and is not the same species as Orbopyxidiella matthesi (Guhl, 1972) Guhl, 1979 . Here we also need to mention Orbopercularia matthesi Lust, 1950, which was marked as a type species of the genus Thysanotheca by Jankowski (1976) in an abstract of a conference, hence the generic name is unapplicable. Jankowski (2007) redescribed the genus Thysanotheca, but without marking ’gen. n.’, hence the name is unapplicable too (personal communication from Dr. Igor Dovgal).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03ED87D69C54EB6399D8F953FBD30760	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
