Carangidae mitogenome sequences

In total, 60 carangid mitogenome sequences were utilized for this study. Of these, 58 publicly available sequences were obtained from GenBank and an additional two sequences, representing the two S. leptolepis lineages, were direct products of firsthand mitogenome assembly from this study. The information regarding these sequences was provided in Supplementary Table 1.

Selaroides leptolepis collection and DNA extraction

An S. leptolepis specimen representing the Asian lineage, with voucher code PHLG03, was collected from a fish landing site in Cataingan, Masbate, Central Philippines on October 2018. Morphological identification during the collection was based on Nakabo (2002) and Motomura et al. (2017). About 1 g portion of the right caudal peduncle was extracted and stored with 95% ethanol prior to genomic extraction. A tissue sample for the Australian lineage, with tissue code GT12032, was donated by the CSIRO National Research Collections – Australia. The specimen was collected from the east of Monte Bello Islands, Western Australia on November 2017. The total genomic DNA was extracted following the instructions of Yeastern Biotech’s Genomic DNA Extraction Kit 2.0 (New Taipei, Taiwan). Extracted DNA were then used as a template to amplify the complete mitogenomes by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
