Jabeen, Khalid & Dima sp. nov.

MycoBank no.:—MB 822616

Diagnosis:—This species differs from other species of Cortinarius subgenus Telamonia, sect. Cinnabarini by the dark brown to blackish brown pileus, elongated stipe, equal to bulbous stipe base, red universal veil remnants on the lower part of the stipe, association with species of Pinaceae, and distinct phylogenetic position based on ITS sequence data, in which it differs by 6–7 substitution and indel positions towards the sister species Cortinarius cf. bulliardii (GenBank no. AY669659).

Type:— PAKISTAN. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Swat, Mankial, under Pinus wallichiana A.B. Jacks. and Cedrus deodara Loudon, 5 September 2013, Malka Saba and Abdul Nasir Khalid, MSM#0028 (FH00304566!) (GenBank accession no. MF872641–ITS, MF872642– LSU).

Etymology:—The epithet refers to the long stipe of the species.

Description:— Basidiomata medium-sized. Pileus 11–45 mm diam, conical to convex, becoming plane; margin deflexed, smooth; surface dry, smooth, hygrophanous, shiny, brownish orange (5YR6/8) at center, margin dark brown (7.5YR1/2) or moderate brown (7.5YR3/4), turning to blackish brown (5YR1/2) on drying. Lamellae adnexed to slightly sinuate, medium-spaced, strong brown (5YR4/6); margin even, strong blackish brown. Stipe 27.5–160 mm, 7‒19 mm wide above, 6‒18 mm at base, equal, clavate or bulbous, pale at apex, strong reddish orange (10R5/12) at the upper region to moderate reddish orange (10R5/10) from the universal veil remnants towards stipe base, straight to curved, cortina reddish orange. Odor and taste not recorded.

Basidiospores [n = 70/3/3] (7–) 8–10 (–12) × 5–6.4 (–7.05) μm [L = 9.57 μm, W = 5.79 μm, Q = 1.5‒1.87], amygdaloid or ellipsoid, coarsely verrucose, guttulate, pale brown to brown in KOH, moderately dextrinoid, apiculus prominent 0.8‒1.1 μm. Basidia 24.3–42 × 5–10.2 μm, clavate, 2–4 spored, thin-walled, brownish in KOH. Cortina hyphae (2.83) 3.0–3.5 (4.2) μm wide, purplish in 5% KOH. Pileipellis duplex; epicutis hyphae cylindrical, interwoven, colorless to pale brown intracellular pigments, not encrusted, 3.19–10 μm wide, hypocutis of cylindrical to enlarged interwoven hyphae, 12–25 μm, hyaline, but also with pale brown intracellular pigments in KOH. Clamp connections present.

Habitat:—Mixed forests of Pinus wallichiana and Cedrus deodara.

Additional specimens examined:— PAKISTAN. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Hazara division, Mansehra district, Khanian, 2500 m asl, on soil under Cedrus deodara, 5 August 2014, Sana Jabeen & Abdul Nasir Khalid KH3; SJ101 (LAH35033!); Malakand division, Swat district, Mashkun, 2500 m asl, on soil under C. deodara and Pinus wallichiana, 5 September 2013, Sana Jabeen & Abdul Nasir Khalid K4-25; SJ10 (LAH35034!).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03A00C21FFE9FF8CFF55C9CBFBFCA26E	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
