This form is not in the genitive but is a valid latinization of the surname, interpretable as a nominative first-declension noun. Under Article 11.9.1, it therefore functions as a noun in apposition. Article 32.5 specifies that incorrect transliteration or latinization does not constitute an inadvertent error subject to correction. Because the name burchera appears multiple times in the original work (abstract, description, index), it is not a lapsus calami or printer’s error. The original spelling must therefore be maintained, and later emendations to burchurae, as in AntWiki Contributors (2025), are unjustified.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/3A7E87F84E57FFD9FF13F830FA3AFE96	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. However, the etymology given for M. longinode is "long node" (Heterick 2001), which suggests that this is meant to be a compound noun. There is no nominative noun form in Latin which ends in - e, and other cases are not permissable according to Article 11.9. There is a nominative neuter adjectival ending, - e, as in node. This is not a case of poor latinization, as the Glossary defines that process as only applying to words which are not Latin. As node is a valid adjectival form in Latin, the simplest reading is that the Latin etymology is meant to be mean 'long-noded'. Article 31.2 does not mention authorial intent or etymological notes when considering whether a species-group name is Latin; it merely states that if a word ends in a Latin adjective, it must agree in gender. As such, this name is changed to longinodis when it is recombined.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/3A7E87F84E5EFFD9FF13FA37FC59F936	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
