China: Guangdong (Huizhou City), Guangxi, and Yunan provinces; Vietnam

Remarks. Neoperla hubleyi Stark & Sivec, 2008 is reported from Guangdong Province, China, for the first time. This identification is based on the male aedeagus, which features a Y-shaped ventral lobe on the aedeagal tube and an aedeagal sac that is mostly covered with scales. The Y-lobe bifurcates in the subapical region, with each arm bearing apical spines. The stalk measures 2.0X the length of each arm. The tip of the aedeagal sac is armed with fine spines (see fig. 5 in Mo et al. 2020b). This species is widely distributed throughout the Oriental region. This new provincial record from Guangdong expands its known distribution and further confirms its presence across this biogeographical area.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/6364974A6B18FF91FF6EFAF849C4654D	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Hemitergal processes of tergum 10 slender, finger-like, slightly bent medially, with a blunt tip (Figs. 2a–c). Aedeagal tube long, slender, well sclerotized but less sclerotized ventrally, ventrally with a slender, bifurcate Y-lobe; arms without apical spines, about two-fifths the length of the stalk (Figs. 2d, 3a, 3c). Aedeagal sac about two-thirds the length of the tube, strongly curved ventrad forming an open loop with a blunt tip; basal half bare; apical half mostly covered with spines of varying sizes, of which the base covered with a dense cluster of spines (Figs. 2d, 3a–b).

Female. The specific epithet refers to the type locality, Lianhuashan Mountain.

Distribution. China: Guangdong Province (Huizhou City). Known only from the type locality.

Remarks. The new species belongs to the Neoperla diehli subgroup (Mo et al. 2024; Zwick 1983). It is most similar to Neoperla moae Zeng, Huo & Du, 2024 in having similar terminalia and the hook-like aedeagus (Zeng et al. 2024b). Both species, however, can be distinguished by details of the aedeagal armature. For the new species (Figs. 2d, 3a, 3c), the arms of the Y-lobe lack apical spines and are shorter than half of its stalk on the aedeagal tube; the length covered by the cluster of spines is approximately half that of the smooth basal part on the aedeagal sac. However, in the latter species (Fig. 9a), the arms of the Y-lobe are covered with apical spines and are obviously longer than half of its stalk on the aedeagal tube; the length covered by the cluster of spines is distinctly longer than that of the smooth basal part on the aedeagal sac.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/6364974A6B19FF91FF6EFD654AF063BC	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. The type locality of the species, 'Ting-wu-shan,' is very likely the Cantonese pronunciation (ding6 wu6 saan1) of Dinghushan Mountain, which is located in the northeast of Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province. The new species is similar to Neoperla anjiensis Yang & Yang, 1998 and N. shiwandashana Mo, Yao, Wang & Li, 2019 (Huo et al. 2021) in possessing similar terminalia and a simple, fully sclerotized aedeagal tube. The new species and N. anjiensis can be distinguished by comparing details of the aedeagal sac armature. In the new species (Figs. 5d, 6a–b), the aedeagal sac is strongly curved ventrally, forming a semicircular shape, and its dorsal surface is evenly covered with coarse spines of uniform size. In contrast, in N. anjiensis (Fig. 9b), the aedeagal sac curves at a right angle towards the ventral surface, and its dorsal surface is covered with spines of varying sizes. In addition, the new species can be easily distinguished from N. shiwandashana by its significantly longer aedeagal sac. In N. shiwandashana (Fig. 9c), the length of the aedeagal sac is approximately equal to the width of the aedeagal tube.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/6364974A6B12FF9FFF6EFF33498B62E2	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
