Togepsylla matsumurana Kuwayama, 1949, comb. rev.

Togepsylla matsumurana Kuwayama, 1949: 48; Hodkinson (1990: 716).

Togepsylla matsumurai [sic]; Miyatake (1981b: 52), misspelling.

Hemipteripsylla matsumurana; Yang & Li (1981c: 182); Kwon & Kwon (2020: 25).

Togepsylla zheana Yang, 1995: 109; synonymised with Togepsylla matsumurana by Li (2011: 212).

Distribution in Korea. JJ (Kwon et al. 2016, Kwon & Kwon 2020, as Hemipteripsylla matsumurana; Cho et al. 2017a) (NIBR, NHMB, SNU).

Host plant. Oligophagous on Lauraceae (Luo et al. 2017) . The records from Korea need confirmation: viz. probably Litsea spp. (Cho et al. 2017a) and Litsea cubeba (Lour.) Pers. (Kwon & Kwon 2020) (both Lauraceae). Lindera erythrocarpa Makino (Lauraceae) is confirmed as host in Korea based on the findings of adults and eggs.

Comments. Kwon & Kwon (2020) refer this species to Hemipteripsylla, listing morphological differences to Togepsylla and, thus, following the narrow generic concept of Li (2011). Hodkinson (1990), on the other hand, argued that “the species placed in Hemipteripsylla and Togepsylla form a monophyletic group”, implying that Hemipteripsylla and/or Togepsylla in the restricted sense are paraphyletic and have to be rejected. The synonymy of the two genera proposed by Hodkinson (1990) and followed by Luo et al. (2017), Cho et al. (2017a) and Burckhardt et al. (2021), is also adopted here: Togepsylla matsumurana, comb. rev. from Hemipteripsylla .
