Cerambyx (Lissonotus) gagatinus Germar, 1824: 504 . Syn. Nov. Rachidion gagatinum; Audinet-Serville, 1834: 56; Monné, M. A., 2005: 637 (cat.). Rhachidion gagatinum; Germar in Guérin-Méneville, 1839: 330. Ceroctenus gagatinus; White, 1853: 58.
The male specimen of Cerambyx (Lissonotus) gagatinus Germar, 1824: 504, with the labels Brasil, Olfers, (Acc. 17998) (Figure 1), is herein designated as the lectotype (Figure 1) in order to stabilize the taxonomy and facilitate further identifications of this species; 14 male specimens with the same data are herein designated as paralectotypes.
The pattern of coloration of the 14 specimens designated as paralectotypes is highly variable, 7 of them are dorsally shining black, as the lectotype, 2 have the distal half of the elytra ornated with large pale yellow transverse band (Figure 3), 2 with two pale yellow patches, one large triangular in the basal half and a second one transversal in the distal half (Figure 2), and 3 with the elytra partially black and partially reddish brown (Figure 4). Two females (Figures 5, 6), nontypes, are photographed to show the colors patterns.
For nearly 200 years, Cerambyx (Lissonotus) gagatinus Germar, 1824 (today in Rachidion, Cerambycinae, Trachyderini) remained unidentified. The examination of the 15 male specimens (designated here as lectotype and 14 paralectotypes) allows us to propose the synonymy.
