Type material. Syntype MCZ 362003 (1 dried spm) .

Remarks. Heath (1911) described this species based on examination of two specimens from ‘Albatross’ station 4369 without designating a type. One of these specimens was prepared for histological sections which are deposited in the California Academy of Sciences, San Fransciso, USA; Stasek (1966) referred to these slides and to another one with sclerites as syntypes. The second syntype, MCZ 362003, was photographed and figured by Salvini-Plawen (1992, fig. 2; as a ‘paratype’); this is currently maintained dried in the MCZ collection.
