Type locality. Neighborhood of 200 miles southeast of Cape Cod (41°13’N, 66°50’W), Massachusetts, USA, 906 fathoms (1657 m) .
Type material. Syntypes USNM 1299479 (2 spms) .
Remarks. Heath (1918) described this species based on examination of three specimens from ‘Albatross’ station 2076, without designation of types. Two of these specimens are the syntypes of USNM 1299479. The third specimen appears to be the one illustrated by Heath (1918: pl. 10, fig. 8), which was prepared for histological sections; these slides are not held by the USNM and Stasek (1966) did not record them deposited in the collection of the California Academy of Sciences.
