Holotype: MA70422, Figure 1i, a median valve, collected by C.R. Laws from Late Oligocene (Duntroonian) Chatton Formation, Shell Gully, Chatton, Southland, New Zealand.

Remarks: Named after Edwin Ashby, “who has already described Callochiton chattonensis from these beds”.
