Known distribution. Brazil (Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Guapore, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rondônia), Bolivia, Colombia, French Guiana, Peru, Venezuela (Hurd 1978: 19). Type locality: “Para” (Smith 1874: 290).

Material examined. Bolivia: Beni, Guayaramerín, 13.X.1934, W. Forster (1 ♀) , Rurrenabaque, Rio Beni, W. M. Mann, Mulford Biological Expedition (1 ♀) ; Chapare, Rio Chipiriri, 400 m, 27.X.1953, W. Notes. Females of this species can be separated from those of the similar small-bodied species X. (S.) muscaria (Fabricius) by the black (as opposed to white) setae on the gena.
