Colobaea Zetterstedt, 1837: 53 . Type species: Opomyza bifasciata Fallén, 1820 (monotypy) [= Opomyza bifasciella Fallén, 1820].
Ctenulus Rondani, 1856: 107 . Type species: Opomyza pectoralis Zetterstedt, 1847 (original designation).
Melanochira Schiner, 1864: 283 . Type species: Opomyza distincta Meigen, 1830 (original designation).
Diagnosis. Small species, no larger than 5 mm. Frons matt, mostly velvet black. Frons with 2 orbital setae. Propleural seta present but short or indistinct. Wing hyaline without spots or reticulated pattern. Vein CuA 2 +A 1 not reaching posterior margin of wing.
Remarks. Of the 13 described species, 10 are Palearctic (9 species restricted to the Palearctic Region with 1 of them extended into the Oriental Region) and 3 of them are Nearctic.
Before our study, Colobaea had never been recorded from China. Two species (4 males from Inner Mongolia and 1 female from Xinjiang) are reported here for the first time from China. All specimens were collected from the Palearctic Region of China; all other species of Colobaea found during our study are also found in the Palearctic Region.
