Measurements. BL = 15.3−16.9 mm (mean = 15.9 mm), HW = 2.4−2.9 mm (mean = 2.7 mm), EYL = 1.0 mm, PL = 3.3−3.6 mm (mean = 3.4 mm), PW = 3.7−4.3 mm (mean = 4.0 mm), EL = 8.7−9.6 mm (mean = 9.0 mm), EW = 5.4−6.1 mm (mean = 5.6 mm), ratio PW/PL = 1.12−1.19 (mean = 1.15), EL/EW = 1.56−1.63 (mean = 1.60), EW/PW = 1.38−1.46 (mean = 1.42).

Description. Head and pronotum black, pronotum with green metallic shine laterally; elytra black, with a yellow spot in the middle of each elytron; ventral surface, coxae, trochanters, tibiae black, femora yellow in the middle, black at base and apex (less so in female, Fig. 8); antennomeres yellow or reddish brown; mandibles, palpi, tarsi brown.

Head convex, vertex and occiput finely punctate; genae glabrous, oblique, as long as one-fifth of eyes in dorsal view; lateral margins of mentum nearly straight. Pronotum (Fig. 21) moderately ovoid, widest slightly before the middle; lateral margins distinctly bordered, slightly sinuate before posterior angles; disc finely punctate, glabrous, median line distinct; posterior angles rounded; base punctate; basal foveae deep, coarsely punctate. Elytra moderately convex, widest slightly behind the middle; intervals 2−8 convex, glabrous medially, with a row of punctures laterally (near striae) (Fig. 27), intervals 1 and 9 irregularly pubescent; yellow spot covering half of interval 4 to interval 8. Proepisterna sparsely punctate. Hind femora with basal black areas slightly longer than hind trochanters; claws (Fig. 33) curved, with 7−9 long teeth. Aedeagus (Figs. 40, 41) robust in lateral view, apical lamella narrow and long. Gonostylus (Fig. 49) of female ovipositor with five long spines on outer margin.

Etymology. Latinized name bodhidharma refers to the great Buddhist monk Bodhidharma.

Remarks. Chlaenius bodhidharma is similar to C. schillhammeri and C. eneides in having elytral intervals glabrous in the middle, but differs from the latter in having yellow spot at the middle of each elytron and covering only half of interval 4 in contrast to yellow spot placed slightly behind the middle and covering whole width of interval 4 in C. schillhammeri and C. eneides . Additionally, aedeagus of C. bodhidharma is more robust (Fig. 40), and apical lamella (Fig. 41) longer than in C. eneides (Figs. 46, 47).
