Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (Virginia) to Brazil (Amapá, Pará, Ceará, Paraíba to Alagoas, Rio de Janeiro to Rio Grande do Sul) (Williams 1984; Christoffersen 1998; Coelho et al. 2006; Pachelle et al. 2016).
Previous records. Ubatuba [Christoffersen 1979, as O. occidentalis (Ortmann, 1893); Costa et al. 2000; Santos & Pires-Vanin 2004; Mantelatto et al. 2016b]; Santo Amaro and Moela Islands (Municipality of Guarujá), Santos, Cananéia and several stations along the coast of São Paulo sampled by the R/Vs Calypso, Emília and Wladimir Besnard (Christoffersen 1979, as O. occidentalis); locality not mentioned (Coelho & Ramos 1972, as Ogyrides sp.).
