Remarks. The basionym of this species is Acanthocorys variabilis (Popofsky, 1913), but it was later emended to a narrower concept and placed in Lophophaena by Petrushevskaya (1971). Herein we follow Petrushevskaya’s (1971) concept of Lophophaena variabilis, although not all other authors have done this, some retaining Popofsky’s broader species concept.
