≡ Agave justosierrana (García-Mend.) Thiede (2012: 94)

Distribution: —Endemic to the state of Guerrero, Mexico (García-Mendoza 2011).

Note:— Manfreda justosierrana García-Mendoza (2011: 748) was described on the basis of one collection from Mexico (Guerrero): A. García-Mendoza, A. Gutiérrez, S. Franco & A. Castañeda 6739 (MEXU) as the holotype [first-step]. Later, Thiede (2012) published a new combination, Agave justosierrana (García-Mend.) Thiede (2012: 94), when transferring Manfreda Salisbury to Agave, but without indicating any of the specimens that might serve as a type. We located two duplicates in the same herbarium (MEXU barcodes 00936610 and 00936618), but the protologue did not indicate which of the two is the holotype. Therefore, they are syntypes, and a lectotype must be chosen (According to Art. 8.3, & 9.17; Turland et al. 2018). We designate one of the sheets kept in MEXU (barcode 00936610) as the lectotype [second step]. The selected sheet is completer and more well-preserved that displays all the morphological diagnostic features in agreement with the protologue.
