Hosts. Plantaginaceae: Penstemon confertus Douglas ex Lindl., P. * digitalis Nutt. ex Sims, P. laxiflorus Pennell, P. procerus Douglas ex Graham (Spencer 1969; Sehgal 1971; Spencer & Steyskal 1986). We have found probable mines of this species on P. pseudospectabilis M.E. Jones.

Leaf mine. (Fig. 199) Whitish, entirely linear; primarily on the upper surface but often with the final portion on the lower surface; frass in dark strips along the sides.

Puparium. White (yellowish according to Spencer (1969)), formed within the leaf, the anterior spiracles projecting ventrally through the lower epidermis.

Distribution. USA: CA, *CT, MS, *NY; Canada: AB. We have seen probable mines of this species (including photographs submitted to www.BugGuide.net) in AZ and WI.
