Agromyza sp. 3

Material examined. OKLAHOMA: Payne Co., Mehan, 36.014339° N, 96.996744° W, 30.xii.2015, em. 31.iii.2016, M.W. Palmer, ex Dichanthelium, #CSE2300, CNC653996 (1♀) .

Host. Poaceae: Dichanthelium (Hitchc. & Chase) Gould.

Leaf mine. Solitary larva forming an irregular whitish blotch on the lower surface, with liquidy green to blackish frass smeared randomly throughout. Visible as whitish mottling on the upper leaf surface.

Puparium. Pale reddish-brown; formed outside the mine.

Comments. Two Agromyza species, A. parca and A. pudica, have now been reared from Dichanthelium spp., but their mines have always been on the upper leaf surface. Only a single example of this underside mine was found, and no upper surface mines were found with it. The larva was collected on 30 December; it pupariated by 5 January, and was kept at room temperature until the adult emerged on 31 March.
