Liriomyza sp. 6
Material examined. CALIFORNIA: San Diego Co., Coyote Canyon, 15.iii.2016, em. by iv.2016, E. LoPresti, ex Emmenanthe penduliflora, #CSE2353, CNC 654494 (1♀).
Host. Boraginaceae: Emmenanthe penduliflora Benth.
Leaf mine. Contorted, whitish, linear, upper surface; black frass in strips and beaded strips along the margins.
Puparium. Yellowish; formed outside the mine.
Comments. No agromyzid has previously been reported from Emmenanthe . In March 2017 we searched for more mines on this host in the hope of rearing a male, but found only mines of a Phytomyza species (likely P. mimuli (Spencer)) . These were similarly linear, but were almost always on the lower leaf surface, with the frass mostly in discrete grains, and with the puparium formed within the mine.
