Calycomyza sp. 2

Material examined. MASSACHUSETTS: Nantucket Co., Nantucket, Squam Farm, 27.viii.2015, em. by 6.ix.2015, C.S. Eiseman, ex Euthamia graminifolia, #CSE2024, CNC 564624 (1♀).

Host. Asteraceae: Euthamia graminifolia (L.) Nutt.

Leaf mine. Whitish; initially linear, expanding to a blotch that may obliterate the linear portion. Frass forming a continuous brown line in the linear portion; diffuse in the blotch.

Puparium. Formed within the mine.

Comments. Prior to this study, no agromyzid had been reported from Euthamia. In addition to this unidentifiable female Calycomyza, we have reared Nemorimyza posticata, Ophiomyia euthamiae, and O. maura from this host, and have found mines of a Liriomyza that we have not yet been able to rear. The Calycomyza mine is similar to that of C. solidaginis on Solidago, but the adult matches the description of C. platyptera . We hesitate to assign this female to C. platyptera due to the mine having a long linear portion with a conspicuous frass line.
