Genus Parisotoma Bagnall, 1940

The genus is common in both hemispheres, except for the tropical zone (Potapov et al. 2011). Species from the Southern Hemisphere differ by the absence of ms-chaetae on Abd.II and anterior position of s4-chaetae (if present) on Abd.IV (Potapov et al. 2011). Taxonomy of the genus Parisotoma was developed by Fjellberg (1977), Deharveng (1981), Rusek (1984), and Potapov (1991). It is the most diverse genus of Isotomidae for South Africa with several species under description. Here we provide the descriptions of two new species with a reduced set of s-chaetae on the body.
