TYPE LOCALITY: Mongolia, Khangai Mtns, upper flow of Ongyin Gol River "Sain Noin Khan."

DISTRIBUTION: From the Tuva region of Russia throughout N Mongolia (see Rossolimo et al., 1988).

SYNONYMS: alleni .

COMMENTS: Subgenus Alticola . Originally described as a subspecies of Microtus worthingtoni, later synonymized with Alticola roylei (Corbet, 1978c), eventually listed as a separate species (Pavlinov and Rossolimo, 1987), and finally taxonomically revised (Rossolimo et al., 1988).
