DISTRIBUTION: From South Africa (see map in Skinner and Smithers, 1990:308) north through most of the continent to Ethiopia, S Sudan, Zaire, and N Angolaand IUCN; extent of range unknown.

SYNONYMS: acraeus, ansorgei, capitis, jamesoni, lineatus, nairobae, ochropus, pallescens, pongolensis, uthmoelleri, whytei.
