DISTRIBUTION: Forest zone of S Ghana, S Ivory Coast, and E Liberia.

SYNONYMS: giganteus .

COMMENTS: Part of the murine fauna endemic to West Africa (see account of Grammomys buntingi). Rautenbach and Schütter (1978) considered cansdalei a subspecies of M. longipes .
