TYPE SPECIES: Micromys agilis Dehne, 1841 (= Mus minitus Pallas, 1771).

COMMENTS: Only one extant species is recognized by most workers, but at least five others are documented by Miocene (Storch, 1987) and Pliocene (Weerd, 1979) fossils. Whether the extant samples represent one or more species has yet to be resolved by critical systematic revision.
