Vandeleuria oleracea (Bennett, 1832) . Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1832:121.
TYPE LOCALITY: India, Madras, Deccan region .
DISTRIBUTION: Peninsular India, Sri Lanka (lowlands), Nepal to Burma, S China (Yunnan), Thailand (except peninsula south of Isthmus of Kra, 10°30'N), and Vietnam; probably occurs throughout Indochina.
SYNONYMS: badius, domecolus, dumeticola, marica, modesta, nilagirica, povensis, rubida, Sibylla, spadicea, wroughtoni .
COMMENTS: Chromosomal features vary geographically (see Winking et al, 1979, and references therein), as do chromatic and cranial traits; oleracea is possibly a composite of species, and despite Agrawal and Chakraborty's (1980) review of geographic variation, needs careful systematic revision.
