TYPE LOCALITY: Cameroon .

DISTRIBUTION: Tropical evergreen forest; recorded from Togo, S Nigeria, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Gabon, Zaire, and Uganda.

SYNONYMS: hypoleucus (Pucheran, 1855, not Sundevall), ituricus, sebastianus .

COMMENTS: Rosevear (1969) described the historical allocations of longicaudatus to Aethomys, Dasymys, Epimys, Mus, Rattus, and Stochomys . Morphometric analyses, which resulted in distinguishing two distinct subspecies, reported by Van der Straeten (1984).
