TYPE SPECIES: Akodon pulcherrimus Thomas, 1897 (= Akodon jelskii Thomas, 1894).

COMMENTS: Akodontine. Described as a genus (Thomas, 1916c) but afterwards conventionally viewed as a subgenus of Akodon (Cabrera, 1961; Ellerman, 1941; Gardner and Patton, 1976; Reig, 1987). Among the most genetically divergent akodonts surveyed by Patton et al. (1989) and Smith and Patton (1991), including species of typical Akodon, Bolomys, and Microxus, and recognized by those authors as a separate genus.
