TYPE LOCALITY: Colombia, Antioquia Dept., 8 km E Medellin, Santa Elena, 9000 ft .

DISTRIBUTION: NC Colombia.

COMMENTS: Distinctive species of uncertain affinities, variously associated with O. balneator or Melanomys (Gyldenstolpe, 1932), with Nectomys (Ellerman, 1941), or with subgenus Oryzomys (Cabrera, 1961) . Such a diversity of opinion begs renewed study.
