TYPE LOCALITY: Argentina, Jujuy Prov., Tilcara, 8000 ft .

DISTRIBUTION: Upper slopes of E Andes from S Bolivia to northernmost Argentina.

COMMENTS: Demoted to a subspecies of P. darwini by Hershkovitz (1962), but distributional and morphological evidence substantiates the specific recognition of P. caprinus (Pearson, 1958) .
