NOTES: (a) specimens from Algeria reported by Athias-Henriot (1959: 171) as P. (P.) bickleyi were re-identified as Proctolaelaps regalis De Leon by Halliday et al. (1998: 32); (b) Lindquist & Hunter (1965: 18) suspected P. bickleyi to be a junior synonym of Garmania lewisi Garman & McGregor; (c) Chant (1963: 269); Karg (1985: 192, 1988a: 448) and Farrier & Hennessey (1993: 42) considered P. lewisi and P. garmanis to be conspecific with P. bickleyi . We adopted the interpretation of Halliday et al. (1998: 32), considering the first two species to be conspecific but different from P. bickleyi .
