Andregamasus branchiophilus Costa, 1972

Andregamasus branchiophilus Costa, 1972: 44 .

Andregamasus branchiophilus .— Karg, 1986: 47.

TYPE DEPOSITORY: British Museum (Natural History), London, England.

TYPE LOCALITY AND HABITAT: Dahab, Gulf of Aqaba, on Coenobita scaveola (Animalia: Paguridae). NOTE: this species and the two following belong to the genus Andregamasus Costa, 1965 . Costa (1965) provisionally placed this genus in the Laelapidae, but later (Costa, 1972) pointed out its similarities with the Phytoseioidea and the Otopheidomenidae, while Karg (1986) placed Andregamasus in Podocinidae . Dowling & OConnor (2010) mentioned an unidentified species of this genus as an Ascidae sensu stricto, reporting its close molecular relation with Gamasellodes . We consider it possible that these species are highly modified members of the Blattisociidae, but that cannot be confirmed because the spermathecal structures of Andregamasus have not been described.
