TYPE LOCALITY: Zaire, W slopes of Mt. Ruwenzori .
DISTRIBUTION: Ruwenzori region (Uganda, Zaire), and W of Lake Edward and Lake Kivu (Zaire).
STATUS: IUCN - Indeterminate.
COMMENTS: Heim de Balsac (1956) proposed for this species a new genus, Mesopotamogale, which is currently regarded as a subgenus; see Corbet (1974).
