DISTRIBUTION: Montane forests of C Honshu (Japan).

SYNONYMS: shiroumanus.

COMMENTS: Subgenus Sorex . Imaizumi (1970b) reported that hosonoi occurs sympatrically with shinto and therefore should be considered as separate species (Corbet, 1978c).
