Diagnosis

The species belongs to the excerptalis­ group on the basis of the similarity of the genitalia with other species of that group. It is similar to S. khasis (Hampson), but in the latter the labial palpus is about 2 times as long as the diameter of compound eye, while in S. adunctella they are about the same length as the diameter of compound eye. In the genitalia, the subteguminal process in S. adunctella is lobelike, while in S. khasis it is tuberculate.

Description

Male: Expanse 28 mm. Head and thorax ochreous. Labial palpus produced upward, length of it approximately diameter of compound eye. Frons and thorax with white scales. Forewing ochreous, underside pale fuscous, with vein R1 anastomosed with Sc; hindwing white, underside pale in costal region. Genitalia with uncus and gnathos relatively long, slender; tegumen with dorsal sclerotized thickening X­shaped; subteguminal process lobelike, hooked, weakly sclerotized; valva broad and truncate distally; juxta platelike; coremata present; aedeagus slender; manica membranous, with two groups of spines; vesica with small spines.

Female: Unknown.

Distribution

China: Yunnan.

Etymology

This species is named for the hooked subteguminal process.
