Teucrium pannonicum Kerner (1863: 384)
≡ Teucrium montanum var. pannonicum (A.Kern.) Nyman (1881: 566)
≡ Teucrium montanum subsp. pannonicum (A.Kern.) Domin (1936: 193)
Lectotype (designated here):— ROMANIA. Bihor, mount Bihor [Bontos kö], Beius [Belenyes], Kerner s.n. (WU 0070075!, scan seen; image of the lectotype available at: http://131.130.131.10/djatoka/jacq-viewer/viewer.html?rft_id=wu_0070075&identifiers=wu_ 0070075).
Notes:— Kerner has described Teucrium pannonicum on the basis of material collected in Transylvania (Romania) on the southern slopes of the Mount Bihor (“ Botnos kö”) near Beius (“ Belenyes ”). He noted that T. pannonicum differs from the typical T. montanum by the size of the plant, the presence of woolly hairs on the stem, broader leaves densely covered with soft woolly hairs on both sides, and toothed calyxes with setaceous narrow tips. Subsequently, Nyman (1881) included T. pannonicum in T. montanum s.l. while Domin (1936) proposed a new status for the species Kerner described, at the subspecies level – T. montanum subsp. pannonicum . The original specimen is deposited in the herbarium WU and it fits with the description provided in the protologue. We here designate the specimen WU 0070075 as the lectotype of the name Teucrium pannonicum .
